American Corner Skopje and the U.S. Embassy North Macedonia invite you to our 3rd annual Diplomatic Simulation, to mark Earth Day 2024, with the topic: Crisis in the Oceans: Sustaining Fisheries in International Waters.
Date: April 16, 2024
Time: 13:00
Location: Faculty of Economics - Skopje
The diplomatic simulation will be moderated by Erin Concors, General Services Officer at the U.S. Embassy in North Macedonia.
She has previously served as the Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate in Vladivostok, where she launched the first Academy for Women Entrepreneurs program in Russia, in addition to leading grants work in support of gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, media outreach, and cultural exchange programs. She has also served in the Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, leading strategic outreach on cultural heritage protection and preservation, and served in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and St. Petersburg, Russia.
Prior to joining the State Department, Erin served with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as the Senior Communications Advisor for its regional mission to Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova based in Kyiv. She has worked as a journalist in the U.S. and as a humanitarian aid volunteer in Ukraine. She holds a B.S. in journalism and an MBA, and has focused on strategic communications, international management, and development work throughout her career.
In this hypothetical simulation, students will take on the roles of key stakeholders as they attempt to negotiate a diplomatic solution and will have a chance to understand the challenges of shaping and implementing foreign policy. Experiencing diplomatic problem solving is a crucial skill for young academics to strengthen their critical thinking, collaboration and communication with peers.
