Fake News and disinformation remain hot topics worldwide, and the Western Balkans are no exception.
The facts are - the Western Balkans’ media is polarized and most media outlets are biased. It’s challenging for traditional media to keep up with the advancement of new technologies. Media literacy requires an established educational strategy, and yet, only one Balkan country has integrated the subject into its formal educational programs. The key challenge is to systematically regulate the work of all the media.
In the meantime, NGOs and media institutions are the ones that educate citizens on how to think critically, use traditional and digital platforms to access information, understand how the platforms operate, identify fake content, and recognize their own role in the communication process.
At the Fake No More conference, we will evaluate the region’s progress toward the goal and learn more about regional efforts. You can follow the conference via the Facebook page of American Corner Skopje.
