About us

The American Corner Skopje was officially opened in January 2005.

The purpose of the American Corner Skopje is to provide free

information to the general public about the United States through books,

magazines, DVDs and complimentary access to the Internet. Besides

serving primarily as a resource center, the American Corner Skopje

hosts a wide variety of events, such as:


  • guest lectures with U.S. Embassy officials
  • presentations on cultural programs
  • film and video showings
  • poetry readings
  • conversational hours
  • Readers Club
  • Kids clubs and story hours
  • Workshops


All of our services are free of charge.

In the field of education, we provide student advising for studying in the U.S. and we organize events with Fullbright scholars. The American Corner Skopje serves as an alumni center where Macedonian citizens who have been to the United States on exchange programs can gather, share their experiences with locals, keep in touch with each other and with their American contacts.

American Corner Skopje is supported by the U.S. Department of State and administered through the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Skopje.

Anamarija Danevska

Programing Activities Specialist

Anamarija Danevska is a student at the Faculty of Philosophy at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. Having started volunteering in the NGO sector in 2017, she has a background in activism in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights. She has experience as a project coordinator and as a communications coordinator, dealing with topics such as feminism, gender-based violence and menstrual stigma. As part of her volunteering, she has directly worked with youth, facilitating workshops on comprehensive sexuality education and menstruation. Along with that, she has worked as a researcher on the subjects of access to information on SRHR, menstrual poverty and sexual harassment.

Monika Spancheska

Programing Activities Specialist

Monika Spancheska holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts, with a Concentration in Film Production from Sarah Lawrence College, New York. From working on film, commercial and student sets, to being a cast member at the Disney Company, Monika has had the privilege of meeting and engaging people of all ages, walks of life and corners of the world. She has experience working in marketing, social media and entertainment, and, having had a positive experience with the American Corner from her own high school experience, she aims to be the help and encouragement current students need to follow their passions and interests.

Aleksandra Danailovska

Coordinator

Aleksandra Danailovska holds an MA in International Relations, obtained at the University of Ljubljana, and she has finished her Bachelor studies at the Institute of Security, Defense and Peace at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje. She worked as a project coordinator, managing projects relevant for human rights and democratic values promotion, gender equality, good governance and advancing the level of security and rule of law. Her involvement in the NGO sector began in 2016 when she became vice-president of the Institute of security and peace research "Karl von Clausewitz". She is author of several research papers in various fields, including democratization, transitional justice, peace and conflict studies, media literacy, and security. Also, she has extensive volunteering experience, working in crisis and humanitarian settings, as a part of the Red Cross Disaster Response Team.

Vesna Dimitrievska

Activities Specialist

Vesna Dimitrievska is a Bachelor of Science in Economics, graduated at the Faculty of Economics at the University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. Vesna is part of American Corner Skopje since August 2021 and she also works as Advisor for International Cooperation at the Faculty of Economics - Skopje. Her passion is mountain-climbing, bike riding and traveling. She has experience in organizing events and conferences gained from her previous working experience. Her inspiring sentence is "Find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life".

Denis Shabani

Activities Specialist

Denis Shabani is a student at the Faculty of Computer Sciences and Technologies, at the South East European University - Skopje. His work experience revolves around project management, social media management and event planning. As a Co-Manager of Eventovative, an event planning company, Denis has organized and implemented more than 50 Youth related social and music events. Denis is also the Coordinator of the Youth Community Center - Chair (YCCC), role that he has been performing for almost 3 years now. During his work career, he's been regularly in touch with Youth events, activities and projects, which have aided the process of social inclusion, a field which he enjoys working on the most.
